Hi, I’m Jolie and this is my substack. That’s a combination of a blog and a newsletter that allows writers to publish work via email subscription.

I’m an ex-evangelical, divorcée, entrepreneur, and mother of two. I write for connection. I write to illuminate a path for myself and anyone who cares to join, into the wilderness where we can see the whole sky. I write because I know that any and all progress I have made in my self actualization came at the hands (and mouths) of women who were willing to tell the truth, and without wringing their hands while they did it.

I’ve decided I believe in my own intrinsic magic, in the healing power of community, and in the idea that the collective always benefits from each of us trusting our own instincts and telling about it. Here I will share my most intimate stories, thoughts, poems, and essays on motherhood, divorce, women, patriarchy, community, friendship, and transformation for those of us who have left the beaten path and could use a hand to hold in the dark.

Why am I charging for a subscription? Great question. Mostly, because I value women’s work, I value storytelling and the spiritual balm it provides, I value my gift of vulnerability to the world, and I value using what I know how to do to provide financially for my two children whom I love more than anything.

I have a mouth like a sailor and a heart as papery and full as a peony in peak season. I’m full of fire that I will likely spend a lifetime learning to warm instead of singe. Welcome to the table, pull up a chair - I hope you will stay awhile. We’ve got extra snacks and all our hearts hanging open.
